7 weeks/ 190 Clock Hours with 40 hours of Phlebotomy Clinical Externship
Phlebotomy/EKG Technician Program prepares program is designed to prepare the graduate to become skilled entry-level Phlebotomist and EKG technician and work effectively in the health care environment. The program includes well balanced on-campus space for lectures and demonstrations, on-campus (work-simulated) doctor’s exam room, phlebotomy and EKG laboratory and patient care room for mock practice patient care procedures and as well as proper storage area. The off-campus Clinical Externship module of the curriculum is structured to include supervised hands-on training (requiring competencies logs and evaluations) at clinical externship sites such us doctor’s offices hospitals, outpatient centers and clinics
Objectives and goals:
- Teaching courses in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, clinical procedures interpersonal skills, confidentiality, medical law and ethics, HIPPA, professional behavior, and patient interface.
- Preparing a knowledgeable entry-level employee with technical skills and work habits necessary to perform effectively in various health-care related fields.
- Providing clinical activities that include performing venipuncture by various methods including butterfly and syringe, dermal puncture for point of care testing, urinalysis collection and instruction of 24 hour urine collection. Perform standard 12 lead EKG using single channel and multichannel machines, pacemaker checks, holter monitor and treadmill stress testing.
At the completion of the program, the diligent student will be:
- Awarded a Certificate of Completion (Diploma).
- Proficient in performing entry-level Phlebotomy and EKG tests..
- Able to sit for the credentialing examination.
- Able to seek an entry-level employment in facilities such as medical offices, clinics, hospitals and healthcare centers.

Phlebotomy/EKG Technicians work directly with
patients. They are employed in doctors' offices, surgery centers, clinics,
blood centers and hospitals. Reference laboratories,
hospitals, blood banks, and many physician offices
depend on the phlebotomists to collect quality samples
from the patient to produce the accurate laboratory
results needed for important monitoring and diagnosis. Their educational background plus specialized
focus, allows EKG Technicians to function well in their field.
Working conditions
Phlebotomy/EKG Technicians Technicians work in clean, well lit, cool and relatively quiet
environments. They may well be required to stand for long periods of time, and
it is vital their attention be focused on the tasks at hand.
Many Technicians
work a regular 40-hour week: although they may be "part-time", work nights,
weekends and holidays on a rotating basis depending on their facility.
